WINNER! 1000+ Subscriber Give Away - Mixed Media Canvas

I Won a Giveaway on YouTube!

Hi all!!! I know! It's been a LONG time since I've blogged but hoping to get back to it. I sure hope I see some visits and comments from old (and new!) blog friends! My life has been so crazy busy and so much has happened.

But first, I wanted to share with you a mixed media canvas that I won from one talented Shel C. I found her on Youtube here: If you haven't heard of her...go see for yourself. She asked her subscribers to enter her giveaway by answering a few questions. One of the questions was, what is my favorite season? Another question, what are my favorite color combos and third, do I collect anything? Well, I said, Spring for the first question, my fav colors are pink, lavender and teal and third, I collect dog figurines and wind-up toys. So she created a mixed media canvas with those answers in mind! Oh! It is so darling!! When my package arrived my granddaughter was so anxious for me to open it! She was jumping up and down and clapping her hands when she saw it!! LOL! So cute!! Here are some photos I took of it.

Shel C also made this sweet card too!!

Isn't it the cutest???!!!  Dog figurines, teal, pink and lavender and spring flowers!!! LOVE IT!!!! Thank you SO much Shel C.
It is hanging right next to my painting that I painted in my bedroom. What do you all think?

Thank you again, Shel C!! And what a treat to be able to watch her create it (JUST FOR ME!) on Youtube! You can too!!!
You can also follow her here:

I'll talk to you again soon! Enjoy the video!!

I've been following her blog for quite sometime and saw that she was having a giveaway. Oh, was I thrilled about that! She was celebrating the fact she was one of the lucky, talented ladies that had been chosen to be published in the magazine, "Where Women Create". In her giveaway, she was generously giving a copy of the magazine AND one of her gorgeous creations called "Pet Park"!! So, of course, I entered!! Boy, was I ever shocked and thrilled and OVER the moon when I received an email from Jennifer that I had won!! Yippee!!! And when my wonderful prize came in the mail I was giddy and couldn't wait to open the box!!
I love this magazine!! Getting a sneak peak in some fantastic studios where extremely talented women create! I would LOVE to be in this magazine!

You and Me by the Sea...

Hello again everyone. I hope all is well with you and you are getting to do things you love to do! I would love to hear what you're up to.
I am still feeling under the weather so my creating has been Slow.Slow.Slow. I've had an old (small) clipboard stashed away for quite awhile. I painted it with white gesso and once that dried, then I glued down pieces of scrap paper with matte medium. After the matte medium dried, I used acrylic paint here and there and let that dry. I then took bubble wrap and brushed paint over it and then stamped the clipboard. I stamped the clipboard with other stamps that I had on hand. I used brown and black StazOn ink.

I found this fish pin at a garage sale and the gold was a little too bright for me so I stained it here and there with alcohol ink. As you can see I didn't cover it completely.

I typed out the words: The only place I'd rather be is by the shore, you next to me.

The starfish in the corner is a metal button that I cut the back off so I could glue it down flat. I used E-6000 glue for that.

Another button and I glued flat-backed white bubble beads above him. :)

I put some old pearls into a little bottle and tied a string around the lid and attached this little metal clam that I found in my goodie stash.

The netting in the background is a piece of an old onion sack that I saved. It was a really pretty purple and I painted it brown and buff white.

I love this old print (on fabric).
And here is a view of the whole clipboard.  What do you think? I imagined this devoted dog (thinking in his mind, of course), saying these words to his owner. Do you have a dog devoted to you? Boy, I do! She doesn't want me out of her sight!
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you are enjoying the start of the month of June! Wow, did it get here fast!! And we are having gorgeous weather! I'm pretty happy about that!

Happy creating all!

I'm linking up with Smiling Sally for Blue Monday!

As Sweet as Honey...

Yes, I have a soft spot for honeybees. How about you? I've always had a desire to learn to raise them.  I have no room to raise them, but if I did...
Speaking of honeybees, I wanted to share something that I've been working on the last couple weeks. Despite the fact that I haven't been feeling so well lately, I did manage to finish this little creation. I hope you like it. It's a bit...unusual but hey, so am I.

This is Miss Honey Queen Bee. You can purchase the Masonite kits at Retro Cafe I painted her an acrylic gold color. Her head and wings I painted black. The wings were also covered in coffee stained cheesecloth. The daisies that she is holding was part of a piece of old jewelry I had. Her face was from an old photograph that I had. I painted over it to make her eyes more "bug" like and painted her hair with a kind of widow's peak.

You can add your own embellishments. I added the patterned paper on the body part of the bee. I also inked the edges of each piece. I glued all the pieces together and then added the brads.

I hope you are enjoying your Memorial weekend! I would love to hear from you. Thank you for stopping by.  Have a Bee-autiful weekend!

Love, Sonya

Waiting for the Ships...

Hello again friends! I thought I would share one of the many projects that I had put on the back burner for the last couple of years and finally finished.

I found this wooden box at a garage sale, as well as the little nautical doll (an Alexander doll that they use to give away with the Happy Meals at McDonald's). The ship was also from a garage sale.

The words are a title of a song from an old music sheet I had in my stash. I outlined each word with black ink.

The seagulls that are just above the little girl's head was a pin. I cut the pin part off and then glued the seagulls to the background.

I think she has a cute little face. And I love her hat!

I love this little ship! I painted strips of scrap papers and tried to mimic little waves of the ocean.

I created the look of sand by using Jumbo Snow-Tex mixed with Toasted Vanilla Acrylic paint. I used a palette knife and layered it onto the inside of the box. Then before it dried, I sprinkled sand all over the Snow-Tex and gently patted it down. The a stuck seashells, sand dollars, starfish etc. down into the faux sand and then the doll. Then I painted the trim around the edge of the box with white acrylic paint, then glued blue ric-rac clear around, to kind of mimic the waves.

There you have it! Thank you for visiting me today! I would love to hear from you! What are you creating? What are you doing for Mother's Day?
